I started my international school career in Torreon, Mexico. And with Maribel, my wife, being from Mexico it quickly became my second home. After ten years teaching and leading in international schools in Mexico we saw so many of our friends move on to schools all over the world. Facebook kept us in touch but it also eventually inspired us to explore the world for ourselves. One goal with accepting positions in India was to get out and see as many places as we could during our time here, both in and out of India. After three years abroad I can safely say our time in India has not disappointed us in that regard. India is literally on the other side of the world from Mexico and Canada, our homes. My wife is from Mexico and I am from Canada. Each year on our way home for summer break we have been able to purchase airline tickets with multi-day layovers in major hub cities. Although we sacrifice air miles by not flying the same airline each time, it has allowed us to spend a few days in Paris, Frankfurt, Florida, Bahamas and Hong Kong for only the cost of hotel. This next summer we have seven days scheduled in Italy. We have also been able to use winter break to travel to nearby countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Thailand and most recently Nepal. I plan on writing a separate blog post about Nepal as many people have asked me for more details about the experience, contact info and photos. Still on our immediate international bucket list are Oman and Sri Lanka. Thailand has been our Mexico while living in India, we have visited Thailand three times now and are particularly fond of the peaceful island of Koh Chang. Finally, we can't forget about the amazing adventures in India itself. These have been the most affordable of adventures and include two trips to God's Own Country Kerala, Delhi, Agra and the Taj Mahal along with Goa. Being an international family miles away from your extended family is hard and special at the same time. In this case the trade off has been being able to take our children around the world during their formative years allowing them to gather a rich, first hand appreciation for so many diverse cultures and people.

As other expats can relate, another advantage of being abroad with your family is that all you really have is each other, so the bond grows, as it has done for us. Trips are like the icing on an already sweet cake. Here are a few of our favourite shots from the trips mentioned above.
